What is showman insurance?

Showman insurance is a collection of covers that protect travelling entertainers, from circuses and outdoor shows to mobile theatres and stunt performers. A road traffic accident could damage your business vehicles and equipment, making you miss a performance and leading to loss of revenue. If a member of the public or a staff member is hurt at your show, without insurance you could face disastrous financial and reputational damage. Showman insurance allows you to manage all these risks with a streamlined and potentially money-saving policy.

What cover is offered?

Showman public liability insurance

Public liability deals with claims made against you by members of the public for personal injury or property damage. If an audience member trips on a loose step and hurts themselves in your marquee or a piece of your equipment falls and damages someone’s property, you are liable to pay all the associated costs. Showman public liability insurance deals with compensation, medical bills, and legal costs, ensuring you’re not left out of pocket.

Showman vehicle and trailer cover

Because you’re using your vehicles and trailers for business purposes, standard vehicle insurance does not offer adequate protection. From accidents to breakdowns, the inability to haul your equipment from location to location could be costly, so showman vehicle insurance offers the right type and level of business vehicle and trailer cover. This cover will take into account the weight of your commercial vehicles and trailers, and you can even get tailored coverage for vintage models.

Employer’s liability cover

Whether you employ an ensemble of full-time performers or a couple of part-time kiosk workers, by law you must hold at least £5 million of employer’s liability cover to deal with claims for illness or injury by members of staff.

Equipment cover

As a showman, you hold rare and often expensive equipment. Protect it while it's in transit and on-site with equipment cover. This will cover accidental damage, loss, and theft, and you can also add cover for vandalism.

It’s important to note that you won’t be covered for the loss of equipment that was left unattended or in an unlocked vehicle or trailer.

How much does showman insurance cost?

Your premium will be calculated according to the type of performances you do, the attendee numbers, the number and types of vehicles and trailers you have, and the types of hazardous activities you perform. The cost will increase if you add useful covers like stock, money, catering, and product liability cover.
