You’re never too big or too famous to get fired, as DJ Million Dollar Mano, long-time on-stage partner of music megastar Kanye West, found out this week.
The exuberant DJ was well known for his stage presence, but in recent months had come under increasing fire from fans and management alike for a catalogue of errors during stage shows. There were also rumours that Mr West’s team were unhappy that the DJ hadn’t adapted his style to suit Kanye’s more reserved on-stage aesthetics in recent shows.
Unfortunately, Mano didn’t take the news well and started lashing out at fans in particular on social media. Many then questioned as to whether the DJ really understood the possible ramifications of his actions, and…how can we put this?… how ‘difficult’ it may be for him to get gigs in the future after his recent online outbursts!
A precarious job
What it does demonstrate (apart from the fickle nature of fame) is just how precarious the occupation of DJ actually is. Never mind those who are doing the rounds DJ’ing weddings and social events in their local area – even the famous are vulnerable to receiving an unexpected P45 and their marching orders.
So what happens to your income when that regular gig you’ve been relying on suddenly dries up? It’s a situation that most DJs will face during their careers, and most will be able to find alternative employment. However, if you’ve committed to a single enterprise at the expense of promoting your DJ business elsewhere, you could suddenly find yourself struggling to play catch-up and drum up new clients. And those mortgage or rent payments still have to be made.
One thing you can do if this happens is to look around forDJ insurancepackages that can also provide you with the option to include a mortgage protection plan. So if the worst does happen and you lose your main income, you’ll still be able to meet your housing commitments so at least you won’t lose the roof over your head as well as your job. It’s certainly well worth talking to your broker to find out if they can source mortgage protection insurance for you – just in case.
