Two of our caring team got hands on to help with a very important project last week. The task was to transform the garden of Bristol’s 8-year old Mackenzie to make it safe and accessible for her. Marc Loud and Ben Pocock joined the big-hearted Helping Hands team of volunteers for the makeover, organised by WellChild, the national charity for sick children, and the Insurance Institute of Bristol.
Mackenzie, from Bristol, has a rare life limiting condition causing gradual deterioration and loss of skills. Unfortunately deterioration can be rapidly accelerated by any trauma to the head, making a safe garden to play in a real priority for her and her family. With a lot of hard work, the team of volunteers were able to create an accessible garden in just two days. Mackenzie can now spend precious time with her family and enjoy having fun with her sister and cousins out in the garden with less worry of falls or injury.
“It was great to be part of something that will really make a difference to this little girl and her family,” commented Marc Loud, Park Insurance. “We thoroughly enjoyed doing something so totally different to our normal day job for such a worthwhile cause.”
