When do you need DJ Insurance

Working as a DJ can be exotic and exciting, but it can also be costly. As with all small businesses there are quiet periods, and during these times it can be hard to makes ends meet. But this doesn’t mean you can scrimp and save on the essentials like insurance.

DJ insurance is something you need in place from the day you start working and your premium should be kept for the duration of your career. It ensures both your equipment and your customers are protected and means that if something unexpected does happen, you have the cover to ensure your business is not ruined.

As a professional DJ your main asset is your equipment. This is something you should ensure is protected at all times by adequate insurance, as without your kit your business will not be able to function. An insurance policy will usually cover your equipment for a minimum of 12 months and the right policy will ensure you have peace of mind if your equipment is stolen or damaged.

Public liability insurance

However, DJ insurance packages go beyond this, and also include public liability insurance. This can protect you if a claim is made against you, perhaps after an accident during one of your performances. Public liability insurance will cover the costs of a court case and also pay out if the claimant wins their case. Without this in place your business is unlikely to be able to shoulder the costs involved.

If you regularly take work for weddings, family events and other private occasions you may find many venues will not allow a DJ to work on their premises if they do not have their own public indemnity insurance.

DJ insurance is an additional expense for your business and it can seem like something you just don’t need when you’re starting out. But if something unexpected does happen you’ll be happy your policy is there! It also presents a more professional image to your customers.

Working without insurance is a risk that simply isn’t worth taking. Even if it is a quiet period you should still ensure your policy is renewed and that you’re acting responsibly as a professional business person.
