Five events to take your horse to in 2015

Having access to your own horsebox can open up a whole new world of possibilities for you and your horse. There’s no need to stick to the same old cantering grounds, you can quite easily hit the road and explore pastures new. But where should you go? Here we take a look at five events to take your horse to in 2015.

The 2015 Burghley sponsored ride – 6th September 2015 – The Burghley Horse Trials are one of the UK’s most prestigious equestrian events. This sponsored ride gives you and your horse the chance to take part in the event by completing a 12km course through Burghley Park. The ride will take you up close to some of the Trials’ most iconic landmarks, including the fences (though don’t worry you won’t be expected, or allowed, to jump them). Perhaps best of all, all of the money you raise will go to charity.

Festival of the horse – The annual Festival of the Horse is organised by the British Horse Society and comprises a number of challenges and competitions for all abilities and horses, from junior to senior. Entries can be made as a team or as an individual. After its cancellation in 2014 due to inclement weather, the event organisers will be looking to put on quite a show this year.

Your Horse Total Confidence Live – 25-26th April – A new event on the UK horse calendar, Total Horse Confidence Live is presented by Your Horse magazine and is a place where people from around the UK can bring their horses to expert training clinics and learn new skills. There will also be a range of live demonstrations by top trainers, riders and behaviourists, as well as the chance to chat with vets, equestrian professionals and coaches in the Horse Care Village. The event takes place at the South of England Showground in West Sussex.

Your local horse equestrian centre – If you want to get start competing in showjumping, dressage or other events with your horse, chances are one of your local equestrian centres will have something on that’s suitable for you, your horse and your abilities. There are far too many such events around the country to list, so simply search for ‘equestrian events’ on Google alongside your area, city or postcode.

Whitfield three day amateur three day riding event (TBC) – 28-29th April – A new event for 2015, Whitfield is taking over from nearby Milton Keynes to stage one of the most important events for amateur riders.

When travelling to any of these events with your horse, be sure to properly prepare for the trip to ensure the wellbeing of your horse and the safety of yourself and your vehicle. At the bare basics, that means keeping up with the maintenance of your vehicle, carrying out standard checks before each journey and ensuring that you have valid horsebox insurance.
