Calling all DJs: Protect yourself this Christmas with the right DJ insurance

The festive season is almost upon us once more, and if you’re a DJ then you’ve probably got plenty of Christmas parties and New Year’s Eve soirees lined up. But while you’re spinning the decks, do you have peace of mind that everything would be taken care of should the worst happen? Ensuring that you have adequate DJ insurance will give you that peace of mind, so you can concentrate on what really matters – laying down the beats that get people moving over Christmas.

DJ insurance – What do I need?

When considering what insurance you need for your DJing activities, you should think about what the risks are.

One of the clearest risks to a DJ is having their equipment stolen, whether from the back of a van, from a venue or from their own home. Sadly, at Christmas thieves are particularly active and ready to exploit any opportunity that presents itself. Of course you can take precautions to try and prevent the risk from becoming a reality, but thieves are determined and you can never totally eliminate the threat. What you can do though is make sure that you have sufficient insurance coverage against theft, so that it becomes more of an annoyance (albeit one that will probably make you curse a blue streak when it happens!) than an utter catastrophe and the end of your business.

Another significant risk is your equipment suffering accidental damage, whether in a fire, a flood or anything else. Again, by having coverage of at least the value of your equipment, if the worst were to happen you should easily be able to get back where you belong – behind the decks – without too much of an interruption.

Protecting your crowd and yourself

As a DJ your main job is inevitably to make sure that everyone has a good time. Unfortunately at Christmas, many people have far too much of a good time, and through exuberance and overindulgence can be much more prone to accidents. Even if this accident isn’t really your fault, you can still find yourself liable for a hefty compensation payout, so it really does pay to have adequate public liability cover on your DJ insurance. By doing so, you may also find that more venues are willing to book your services.
